Meeting Bruce Boxleitner
Bruce Boxleitner has to be the ultimate Space Captain! I thought Patrick Stewart was the bees knees but I transferred my loyalty when I got hooked on Babylon 5.
Since Babylon 5 finished there hadn’t been much word on what he’d been doing so I was delighted to find out he had written a sci-fi / western called “Frontier Earth”.
I was even more delighted to find out he would be doing a UK book signing tour.
I was ecstatic to learn he would be visiting Nottingham (which just happens to be where I live!).
So along with Kirsty and Anke, a couple of friends from the Bruce Boxleitner Onelist (who were following him around the country and going to all his signings) I turned up at Forbidden Planet, bought the book and admired the nice piccie of him on the back cover and waited for him to arrive. And arrive he did and I was actually quite shocked at how much charisma and presence the man has. He was also genuinely a nice guy who was happy to meet fans and have a chat and a joke with them.
I managed to get totally flustered and plucked up the courage to ask for a photo with him and he was more than happy to apart from the way the tiny FP in Nottingham is laid out, you couldn’t actually get next to him. So he suggested I lean over the side of the table towards him and as I was doing so gave a wicked grin and said “just bend over and smile”.
I nearly died laughing at that point which why the photo looks a bit odd
